Klagenfurter Messe Betriebsgesellschaft mbH
About the company
The forerunners of today’s trade shows in Klagenfurt date back to 1838. One-off events only were held until 1931 when “Verschönerungsverein Klagenfurt und Umgebung” beautification committee added a goods exhibition to the traditional autumn fair. The success was so enormous that the committee continued to organise trade shows until 1966. In 1967 a dedicated company, Klagenfurter Messe Betriebsgesellschaft mbH., was established to manage the now greatly increased demand.
Klagenfurter Messe Betriebsgesellschaft mbH was founded.
“Verschönerungsverein Klagenfurt und Umgebung” no longer acts as the organiser.

The history of Klagenfurt Exhibitions was changeable. After years of interruption due to the war, a reconstruction phase was kicked off with great enthusiasm and commitment in 1946.

It takes a full year to prepare an event as big and complex as the HERBSTMESSE KLAGENFURT. It is a year filled with an altogether incredible number of strategy meetings, customer meetings and creative ideas! The video provides some impressions of how we work and cooperate with our partners and customers to organise the Autumn Fair and ensure its success.
The video was produced by Mediapool, a film and video production company from Klagenfurt.
We are the most important organiser of trade shows, specialist exhibitions, conferences and technical meetings in Carinthia, the central location in the Alpine-Adriatic region. The trade shows organised by KÄRNTNER MESSEN enjoy an excellent international reputation.
Carinthia enjoys traditionally close relations with its immediate neighbours Slovenia, Northern Italy (Friuli Venezia Giulia and Veneto) and Croatia. Within Austria Carinthia entertains very close contact with the neighbouring Provinces, in particular Styria, Eastern Tyrol and Salzburg. We regard this economic area as the central European region and the core area of our activities.
The majority of our exhibitors and visitors come from this geographical area, which means the events organised by Kärntner Messen are the gateway to the Alpine-Adriatic region.
“Kärntner Messen Klagenfurt” holds an important position in Austria, and the figures prove it: While the number of exhibitors at Klagenfurt trade shows was 1,250 in 1990, we now welcome more than 2,500 exhibitors every year who choose Klagenfurt as the venue to present their business, products and services. Visitor numbers have also increased steadily from 150,000 visitors in 1990 to 280,000 visitors in recent years. A result that is not least due to the consistent expansion and quality improvement of the individual trade shows.
Infrastructure is vital for a successful trade show venue. Klagenfurt is among the best in terms of infrastructure: some EUR 22 million have been invested in new halls, refurbishments, renovation and technical equipment over the past ten years alone. The total exhibition space is 100,000 sqm, with 35,000 sqm in halls.
The location is ideal and easily accessible: it is in the centre of Klagenfurt and with virtually unlimited parking options, in immediate vicinity to the motorway (A2, A10) and the train station. The airport is also only a few kilometres away.
